Members of the North West Chapter of the Fellowship of First Fleeters had a busy time on Australia Day.
Descendentants of our members arrived in Australia in 1788 and on 26th January of that year Captain Philip raised the flag at Port Jackson, taking possession of the land in the name of the British Government and the colonisation of Australia was begun.
On Saturday night, 24th January 2004, the members helped with taking the donation bucket among the estimated 2,000 people watching a Country Music Concert in Tamworth and on Monday we attended a morning service in the Bush Chapple in the Tamworth Botanic Gardens. President Warren White read the lesson from Isaiah 32:15-18.
We then headed to Wallabadah for a picnic in the newly formed First Fleet Memorial Gardens.
We toured the gardens and then joined in with an Australia Day function conducted by the Quirindi Shire Council.
